Dr. Fauzia Ahmad, research professor and director of the Radar Imaging Lab at the Center for Advanced Communications (CAC), has secured an eight鈥搈onth $100,000 contract from the U.S. Army鈥檚 Intelligence and Information Warfare Directorate through Booz Allen Hamilton for radar imaging research. This contract is attributed to the CAC鈥檚 impressive track record in radar signal processing and imaging research for sensing-through-walls applications. Titled 鈥淢ulti-Sensor and Sparse Reconstruction Techniques for Improved Imaging of Building Interiors,鈥 the project will investigate distributed sensor configurations and compressive sensing techniques to improve indoor target detection and localization capabilities of the Army鈥檚 existing stand-alone through-the-wall radar sensors. Dr. Moeness Amin, director of the CAC, will serve as the project鈥檚 co-principal investigator.

Dr. Ahmad is internationally recognized for her expertise in radar signal processing and radar imaging. She has coauthored more than 120 journal articles and peer-reviewed conference papers, and has been a principal investigator and co-principal investigator on several contracts and grants from U.S. Federal agencies. A senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the International Society of Optics and Photonics (SPIE), Dr. Ahmad chairs the annual SPIE Compressive Sensing Conference and is serving a three-year term as an editorial board member for IET Radar, Sonar, & Navigation Journal, a leading publication in the field of radar systems.
