Civil Engineering Student Accepted to Prestigious Internship Program

澳门二分彩 College of Engineering student Jonathan Mize 鈥15 CE, has been accepted into the U.S. Department of Transportation鈥檚 Summer Transportation Internship Program for Diverse Groups (STIPDG). He will intern as a transportation engineer assistant with the Office of Infrastructure Research & Development, within the Federal Highway Administration in McLean, Va. STIPDG is a nationally competitive program, which provides students with on-the-job training and professional experience. Jonathan is the fifth student from the College of Engineering to be accepted in the last five years. 鈥淛onathan is a most-deserving recipient, and the internship is also a great testament to the strength of Villanova鈥檚 transportation engineering program,鈥 says Seri Park, PhD, assistant professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Jonathan has also received recognition for related research that he conducted with Dr. Park. By examining traffic data resources obtained in greater Philadelphia, they have analyzed congestion contribution factors to support the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission鈥檚 (DVRPC) long-term transportation planning goals and objectives. This research was presented at conferences including the Transportation Research Annual Board Meeting and the International Symposium on Visualization in Transportation. Furthermore, their work has been accepted for publication in Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board. Jonathan鈥檚 research is part of a collaborative effort with DVRPC, demonstrating the successful partnership of academia and the real-world engineering industry.
