College Announces 2020 Ward Lecturer: Dr. Douglas Munch ’69 ChE
On February 21, 2020, Dr. Douglas Munch will present the College’s annual Patrick J. Cunningham, Jr. and Susan Ward '80 Endowed Lecture Series in Engineering. “When I Grow Up: A Life’s Narrative” will share lessons learned from his storied career, which includes the Apollo program, the Navy’s F-14 fighter aircraft and a PhD in Medicine and Biomedical Engineering.
Villanova Professor Publishes a “Model-Based Investigation of Cytokine Dynamics in Immunotherapies”
Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering Dr. Jacky Huang’s Biological and Environmental Systems Engineering group recently published a paper in the journal Processes detailing a modeling-based strategy to combat cytokine release syndrome, which is a deadly side effect found in immunotherapy patients.

Villanova Graduate Students Recognized by IEEE for Work in Sustainable Water Treatment
SODIS (Solar Disinfection) is the act of disinfecting water solely through UV radiation—literally leaving a water bottle in the sun for several hours. Because of its simplicity, however, user confidence in SODIS has been low and that has led to consumption of contaminated water. Four Villanova Engineering graduate students are working to address the issue with their product “SoCo for SODIS” (Solar Confidence for SODIS), which offers a means of testing water quality to ensure it’s been exposed to sufficient light.
