1950s


1958

Two big names in Wildcats Track and Field history shared the spotlight in June for a tremendous honor. Ron Delany 鈥58 VSB, 1956 Olympic gold medalist for Ireland in the 1500 meters, 10-time IC4A champion, 10-time Penn Relay winner and four-time individual NCAA champion, and Vicki Huber 鈥89 CLAS, a two-time Olympian, eight-time NCAA champion, and 20-time BIG EAST champion, both added one more medal to their impressive collections during the inaugural induction ceremony for the newly formed Collegiate Athlete Hall of Fame. The celebration paid tribute to the accomplishments of 20 men and 10 women whose achievements spanned nearly 100 years. Delany, one of Villanova鈥檚 and Ireland鈥檚 most accomplished athletes, was also an inaugural inductee into Villanova鈥檚 Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 1974. Huber, named national Collegiate Female Athlete of the Year for 1988-89, was a 10-time All-American.

1960s

1967

Raymond Kane 鈥67 COE, 鈥81 MS with the help of Lee Doyer 鈥67 COE coordinated an effort to compile the memoirs of 16 Villanovans in one book, The Journey of a Band of Villanova Brothers. This unique group memoir details the life arc of these men from young first-year students at Villanova to their retirement years. The book shows how the bonds of friendship remain today among these men, many of whom were commissioned officers through the NROTC unit at Villanova.

1968

Domenic Fiore Brunelli 鈥68 CLAS has published a memoir, Big Daddy: From Near to Eternity, which traces the sometimes zany characters and stories that have informed his life, from growing up in Little Italy and his years as an undergrad at Villanova, to his return as a senior citizen student.

1970s


1970

For her visionary leadership and significant contributions that influence progressive and critical care nursing, Gloria McNeal 鈥70 BSN, PhD, MSN, ACNS-BC, FAAN, was presented with the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Pioneering Spirit Award during a ceremony in Houston. As associate vice president for Community Affairs in Health at National University in San Diego, Dr. McNeal, who鈥檚 currently serving on Villanova鈥檚 M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing Board of Consultors, has led efforts to bring health care directly to those most in need and introduce telehealth and remote monitoring to critical care nursing practice.

William Shakalis 鈥72 CLAS, associate librarian (tenured) now emeritus, retired from Worcester State University in Massachusetts in January 2021.

1974

Jerry Bouma 鈥74 CLAS, who spent his career as a management consultant in the agri-food sector, was recently appointed as the honorary consul for the Kingdom of the Netherlands, for the province of Alberta, Canada. In December 2021, he published a book, Touching Greatness, Forever Together鈥擳he Villanova Track Story: 1966-1981.

1975

Charles Desnoyers, PhD,听 鈥75 CLAS, 鈥79 MA was named professor emeritus at La Salle University in September 2021. Dr. Desnoyers taught Chinese, Japanese and World history at La Salle from 1989 until 2021. He has written several books, the most recent titled Patterns of East Asian History.

1976

Marc P. Weingarten, Esq., 鈥76 CWSL, a partner in the Locks Law Firm in Philadelphia, presented at the Pan European Organization of Personal Injury Lawyers Joint Conference on Medical Negligence and Product Liability, Pharmaceutical and Mass Tort 2022. The title of his presentation was 鈥淎natomy of a Class Action in the United States.鈥

1980s

1980

Leeanne (Rebic) Hay 鈥80 CLAS published her first book, NPE* A Story Guide for Unexpected DNA Discoveries, exposing the life-changing impact of the identity loss that thousands of people encounter from taking a consumer DNA test and providing resources to overcome it.

1981

Joseph Lewis 鈥81 CLAS published Miracle at the Mission, the second book of his Westthorpe Academy Mysteries, which follows two high school-age best friends as they are drawn into a series of events filled with suspense, mystery and espionage.

Joan A Buchko Roop 鈥81 FCN earned a Doctorate in Education from Saint Elizabeth University in Morristown, N.J.

1982

Karen M. Daley, PhD, 鈥82 FCN is the new dean of the Susan L. Davis and Richard J. Henley College of Nursing at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn. She previously served for 10 years as dean of the Davenport University College of Health Professions.

1983

Quinn Seese Collins, DNP, RN, NE-BC, 鈥83 FCN, 鈥89 MSN has been appointed senior director of Nursing for Strategy and Integration for the Johns Hopkins Health System. In this role, she will work collaboratively with the chief nursing officers system-wide to standardize strategic initiatives and nursing practices.

Robert O'Malley 鈥83 CLAS and Christen Melcher 鈥00 MA were married on Oct. 9, 2021.

1985

Gerald Carozza, JD, 鈥85 CWSL is the author of The Strangest of Places: Building Castles Made of Sand in Afghanistan, based on Carozza鈥檚 experience as the senior legal adviser to the Afghan Army and Ministry of Defense and his subsequent testimony before Congress.

John Colgan 鈥85 VSB celebrated his retirement from a 38-year business career in 2020 by building his own in-home cigar and sports bar that includes a tribute wall to Villanova鈥檚 victory over Georgetown in the 1985 NCAA Division I Men鈥檚 Basketball Championship. Colgan鈥檚 collection of memorabilia also includes items from his time working at CBS Sports from 1981鈥85.

Paul Romanelli 鈥85 VSB was named the 2021 Business Person of the Year by The Suffolk Times in Long Island, N.Y., for his leadership and community dedication. Romanelli is the owner of Suffolk Security Systems, and he also serves as chairman of the Eastern Long Island Hospital Foundation and has helped raise more than $500,000 for COVID-19 relief.

1986

Donald J. Detweiler 鈥86 CLAS has joined Womble Bond Dickinson鈥檚 Bankruptcy, Restructuring, and Creditors鈥 Rights practice as a partner in the Wilmington, Del., office.

Robert Tyson, JD, 鈥86 CLAS,听 鈥89 CWSL, managing partner of civil defense law firm Tyson & Mendes, was a featured speaker at the inaugural Nuclear Verdicts Defense Institute in San Diego.


1987

Lillian Dukes 鈥87 MS has been recognized by Savoy Magazine, a leading African American lifestyle and business publication, as one of the Most Influential Black Executives in Corporate America for 2022. The senior vice president of Technical Operations at Atlas Air, a leading global provider of outsourced aircraft and aviation operating services, Dukes has spent more than 30 years solving problems, hiring and leading great people and delivering results. In 2021, Dukes spoke on 鈥淗ow Good Engineers Craft Great Careers鈥 as part of the College of Engineering鈥檚 Patrick J. Cunningham Jr. and Susan Ward 鈥80 Endowed Lecture Series in Engineering.

Kenneth Justice 鈥87 COE听founded the Kidneys for Kenny Foundation after his own successful kidney transplant in November 2021. The foundation aims to assist others鈥攌idney recipients and living donors鈥攇oing through the transplant process.

Alfred J. Carlson 鈥89 VSB,听managing partner of Martin Law, LLC, was named president-elect of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, the oldest trial lawyer organization in Pennsylvania.

1990

Kenneth F. Fulginiti 鈥90 CWSL of Duffy + Fulginiti has been elected president of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association. In this role, he will oversee an organization dedicated to protecting and defending the American legal system and preserving the Constitutional right to a jury trial for individuals injured due to negligence.

1991

Michael D Ridgeway 鈥91 MS has been named president of MKS Inc., a software company in King of Prussia, Pa. MKS provides ordering, inventory control and shipping software for retailers and distributors.

1992

Paul Vitrano 鈥92 CLAS co-founded Waev Inc., an electric vehicle manufacturer based in Anaheim, Calif. He serves as the company's senior vice president and chief legal and policy officer.

1994

James M. Kernodle, OD, 鈥94 CLAS, an optometrist in Asheboro, N.C., ranked 74th on a Newsweek list of 鈥淎merica鈥檚 Best Eye Doctors 2021.鈥

1995

Mark McCreary 鈥95 CLAS, co-chair of the Privacy and Data Security Practice at Fox Rothschild, earned the American National Standards Institue-accredited Certified Information Privacy Technologist credential through the International Association of Privacy Professionals. He is the first to serve as chief privacy officer of the firm.

1996

Sneha (Patel) Desai, Esq., 鈥96 VSB has joined the medical technology company Stryker as its chief legal counsel for Global Litigation and Employment. She was formerly deputy general counsel for Litigation at BASF Corporation.


Good things come to those who bait鈥攐r at least that鈥檚 the case for Nick Honachefsky 鈥96 VSB, whose lifelong passion for angling has taken him across the globe to more than 45 countries and shaped his professional career as a full-time sport fishing and travel journalist. Now, Honachefsky has reeled in the opportunity to host and executive produce his own Discovery Channel series, Saltwater Underground, set in his home state of New Jersey.

Alaina (Vasta) Walton 鈥97 CLAS earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership and Management from Drexel University. She is the director of Academic Assessment at Stockton University in Galloway, N.J.

William B. Gowie Jr., CPA, MT, 鈥00 CWSL was named the 2022 Small Business Person of the Year by the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, recognizing his community engagement, company success and leadership skills. He is the managing partner and co-founder of Barsz Gowie Amon & Fultz, a full-service accounting firm based in Media, Pa., that specializes in working with small businesses and medical practices.

Mark Schreiner 鈥01 MS accepted the position of chief engineer at the electronics company MegaPhase in Stroudsburg, Pa.

Bridget Bucardo-Rivera 鈥02 CLAS, a senior technical advisor with Catholic Relief Services, received the Swanstrom-Baerwald Award, which honors Fordham alumni who have made significant contributions in the service of faith through the promotion of international peace and development.

Nina Tanghe Ingulli 鈥02 VSB and her husband, Charles, were Nazareth Academy High School鈥檚 2022 Legacy Gala honorees for their commitment of time, talent and treasure to the school and mission of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth.

Shana (McMahon) Nelling, Esq., 鈥02 VSB was promoted to the position of vice president and general counsel of Irex Corporation in Lancaster, Pa.

John Devine 鈥03 CWSL has joined Holland and Knight LLP in Philadelphia as a partner in the firm's Healthcare and Life Sciences Mergers and Acquisitions practice group.

Patrick Dunn 鈥04 VSB was named as executive director of the International Pemphigus and Pemphigoid Foundation, which is a support and advocacy organization for patients with rare autoimmune diseases.

Jessica Strom 鈥05 VSB received double accolades when she was selected as one of Crain's New York Business 2021 Notable Women in Accounting and Consulting and as one of the 2021 New York State Society of CPAsEmerging Leaders Under 40.

Anthony Cortese 鈥06 COE and his wife, Helen, welcomed their daughter, Eleanora Meadow, on Jan. 25.

Sheena (DeShields) Gonzalez 鈥06 FCN, 鈥13 MSN graduated with a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of South Alabama. She is a pediatric advanced practice provider at Tanner Health System in Carrollton, Ga.

Brian Judge 鈥07 CLAS has been promoted to director at Goulston & Storrs in Boston, Mass., where he is a real estate attorney.

LeAnne Armstead 鈥08 CLAS and Walter Smith Randolph 鈥09 CLAS were married on Nov. 6, 2021, at the St. Thomas of Villanova Church. University President the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, 鈥75 CLAS officiated the ceremony.

Michael Ferrara 鈥08 VSB and Jennifer Nisler 鈥15 CLAS were married in Newport, R.I., on Sept. 5, 2021.

Katie Kent-Morshed 鈥08 CLAS and Arya Morshed 鈥09 CLAS welcomed daughter Hailey Patricia Morshed on May 2.

Elizabeth (Patitucci) Skowera 鈥08 VSB welcomed twins, Lila and Theodore Skowera, on May 10, 2021.

2011

The Rev. David Kiblinger, SJ, 鈥11 MA is one of four Jesuits of the USA Central and Southern Province ordained to the priesthood on June 11 in St. Louis, Mo. His first assignment as a priest is a pastoral year at St. Martin de Porres Parish in Belize City, Belize.

Meghan Price Travaline 鈥11 CLAS, 鈥15 CWSL and her husband, Michael, welcomed their third daughter, Caroline Mary, on March 7.

2013

Emily Esposito 鈥13 VSB was promoted in April 2021 to global merchandising director of Women鈥檚 Polo at Ralph Lauren Corporation.

Danielle Makowiec 鈥13 MS was hired as Human Resources director for auditing firm Dannible and McKee in Syracuse, N.Y.

Jenna (Ceprini) Marcaccio 鈥13 CLAS and her husband, Stephen Marcaccio, MD, 鈥13 CLAS, welcomed their first son, John Edward, on Jan. 9. Stephen Marcaccio will be completing his residency in orthopedic surgery at Brown University in June and will pursue fellowships in trauma and sports medicine.

Emily Niederhauser 鈥14 FCN and Myles Lund 鈥16 CWSL were married on April 2.

Wendell G. Rakosky 鈥14 MS has been appointed by Maryland鈥檚 governor to a second four-year term on the Maryland General Assembly Compensation Commission.

Christina Martin Scharff, MD, 鈥14 CLAS was inducted into the Epsilon Chapter of the AOA National Medical Honor Society on March 8.

John Reynolds 鈥15 CLAS has been named partner at Buchanan Public Relations, a full-service public relations, digital and crisis communications agency. Reynolds joined Buchanan PR in 2014 and served as vice president and director of Media Relations prior to being named partner.

Danielle Bissonette Mink 鈥17 CLAS and Patrick Mink 鈥17 CLAS were married at the St. Thomas of Villanova Church on June 18.

Amber Shelton 鈥17 CLAS, 鈥18 MS was inducted into the Epsilon Chapter of the AOA National Medical Honor Society on March 8.

Giovanna Bonafede 鈥18 CLAS has joined Praemia Law, PLLC as an associate attorney after three years clerking with the firm.

Christopher J. Medora 鈥18 COE was honored by the Philadelphia Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers as its recipient of the Community Outreach and Service Award for 2022. Medora is an associate traffic engineer with WSP in Philadelphia. Medora is the chair of the Student Member Transition Committee as well as the practitioner advisor for Villanova鈥檚 student chapter of ASCE.

Casey M. McIntyre, JD, 鈥19 CLAS accepted a position as assistant district attorney at the Bronx District Attorney鈥檚 office following her graduation from Brooklyn Law School.

2020s


2020

Welcome home, US Army 1st Lt. Cardon Furry 鈥20 COE, who in May returned to the States after being deployed to Syria for nine months, during which time she was awarded a Bronze Star for outstanding service. Based in an active combat zone, 1st Lt. Furry was the head engineer at her remote US outpost, where she and the eight soldiers under her command were charged with maintaining security, force protection and life support. This included all electrical, carpentry and plumbing as well as constructing defensive structures, in addition to conducting all demolition tasks.
