Despite only receiving his PhD one year ago, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Dr. Xun Jiao has already been recognized with two awarded papers in the field of embedded and cyber-physical computer systems.

In July, his 鈥淯ncertainty Theory Based Reliability-Centric Cyber-Physical System Design鈥 won the Best Paper award at the 2019 IEEE International Conference on Cyber Physical and Social Computing (CPSCom-2019) in Atlanta. The acceptance rate of regular papers for this event is only 16.7%.

Most recently, the Association for Computing Machinery鈥檚 (ACM) International Conference on Embedded Software (EMSOFT) selected his paper 鈥淧olar: Function Code Aware Fuzz Testing of ICS Protocol鈥 as a candidate for best paper鈥攁gainst one from Duke University and another from Cambridge University. EMSOFT is the premiere venue for cutting-edge research in embedded software and is part of the Embedded Systems Week (ESWEEK), bringing together the three leading embedded systems conferences. EMSOFT will take place October 13鈥18, 2019, at New York University, and the best paper award decision will be made during the conference after the presentation of all three papers. Regardless of the outcome, Dr. Jiao鈥檚 paper will be featured in ACM鈥檚 top journal Transactions on Embedded Computing Systems with other EMSOFT accepted papers.

Dr. Jiao鈥檚 first year PhD student Dongning Ma鈥檚 competition paper was accepted for the first round of the ACM Student Research Competition, which is also part of ESWEEK. Ma鈥檚 paper 鈥淢achine Learning-Based Error Prediction for Approximate Computing Hardware鈥 earned him a travel grant to ESWEEK, giving him the chance to present his results and compete for the second round and the opportunity to attend the Annual ACM Awards Banquet, where the Turing awards are presented.
